Discovery Pipeline

Nature's diverse resource

The natural world provides an exciting source of new chemical entities, with WA’s extensive biodiversity a largely untapped resource for potential discoveries. We are focused on identifying and developing potent natural products as novel therapeutics with new modes-of-action. By targeting new pathways with novel chemical scaffolds, we minimise the risk of drug resistance and increase the likelihood of solving some of the most significant global health challenges.  This approach is a natural, sustainable and environmentally safe way to support the growth of a new, globally significant and sustainable industry.

Western Australian Biodiversity

A rapid and robust screening platform

HPLC analytical separation

At Western Biodiscovery, we combine traditional screening techniques with modern separation science to develop a rapid and effective high-throughput screening platform. Through the use of bioassay-guided fractionation, we are able to isolate, purify and identify active compounds from complex crude extracts. We currently have a large collection of crude extracts and the capacity to screen against a wide range of diseases.

Targeting critical pathogens

Antimicrobial drug resistance, particularly across bacterial and fungal pathogens, is a major cause of life-threatening infections. Our initial screening has focused on critical pathogens identified by the World Health Organisation that are highly virulent and drug resistant. We have already generated a number of promising leads to develop further for pre-clinical trials.
